5 Star Team: Gerald Alexander

Gerald Alexander

Gerald Alexander grew up in Jonesboro, Louisiana, and graduated from Louisiana Tech University. He began training and showing for all kinds of events, including halter, pleasure, roping, and reining.Alexander says that his reining background continues to influence his methods today. In the early 1980s, Alexander switched to training cutting horses, specializing in starting 2-year-olds on cattle. Although he points out that a horse’s success has much to do with who finished and showed it, the list of show pen stars that started in his barn is impressive.Among Alexander’s greatest prospects were NCHA Futurity Champions Dainty Playgirl and San Tule Freckles, Reserve Futurity Champions Mr Beamon and Peptocandy, Derby Champion Sue, and Reserve Derby Champion Blue Duck Okie.During the past eight years, 15 horses that started with him have advanced to the Open Futurity finals, including five that made it in 2001.Alexander trains out of Silverado on the Brazos in Weatherford, Texas. He and his wife, Kaye, moved to Weatherford in 2005. Alexander noted that Kaye’s knowledge of training, along with her critical eye, has helped him succeed and played an important role in modifying his program. “She helped me figure this out,” he said. “She can see a world of stuff that you can’t feel. She could probably train one better than me. I’m real fortunate to have her.”

5 Star Experiences

I train cutting and reining horses. Both disciplines require a lot out of my horses, and I have never had a sore backed horse yet. I brought a few up for some clients of mine that are into western pleasure and roping, and they are as pleased as I am. In fact, I need to put in another order!

I struggled with saddle fit with my mare for almost a year. After spending thousands of dollars trying to find a right saddle/saddle pad combo, I finally tried a 5 star and was immediately hooked. My mare is running harder, clocking better, and is overall happier and more relaxed.

I love my 5 star pad! It is so soft and I feel has the best protection for my horse's back. We trail ride and barrel race in ours! My mare's back doesn't seem as hot and sweaty using our 5 star compared to other saddle pad's I have used. Only the best for my girl!

The 5 star pad conforms great to my horses back and gives much needed relief on his withers. I love how soft but very durable they are and they are so easy to clean. I had tried other types of felt pads but he was very unhappy and as soon as I put this one on he's very comfortable and relaxed.

I love my 5 star pad I bought one because of all the good reviews I have heard. I have owned my pad for 10 years and is still in great condition. I can take this pad from my barrel horses to my mules which are hard to get a saddle to fit right. I would recommend these pads to everyone.
